Pitney Bowes hardware includes high-speed mailing insertion machines that match personalized transactional and marketing documents with printed envelopes, then weigh and stamp them with official USPS indicia printed by a postage meter. Pitney Bowes sorters pre-sort outgoing mail by zip code to save mailers hundreds of thousands of dollars per day in postage. Pitney Bowes mailstream expertise originated in its postage meter business which continues to be the only patented device that provides secure, encrypted financial transactions between the USPS and its clients.
Pitney Bowes software delivers accuracy, personalization and integrity for each mail piece. Cameras digitally capture individual pages of a mail piece to ensure that the right personalized materials are delivered only to the right person at the right time. Internet software allows consumers to print shipping labels on home computers for parcels saving a trip to the post office. Location intelligence software from Pitney Bowes layers demographic and economic information over addresses to help organizations including Zillow, the online real estate service, and FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Pitney Bowes services range from running the mailroom for global organizations to emerging services such as eDiscovery for law firms. Comprehensive outsourcing services set up mail rooms for clients either onsite or offsite, staffed by employees who leverage postal knowledge for increased productivity and lower costs. Pitney Bowes expedites domestic and international delivery of letters and packages by presorting millions of pieces of mail daily through a network of 37 world-class processing and distribution centers. History
In 1902, Arthur Pitney patented his first postage-stamping machine. In 1908, Walter Bowes began providing stamp-canceling machines to the U.S. Postal Service. Due to the collaboration of Pitney and Bowes, the firm delivered the first USPS-approved postage meter. Pitney Bowes was founded in 1920 when Arthur Pitney’s American Postage Meter Company merged with Walter Bowes’ Universal Stamping Machine Company. Today, the Pitney Bowes tradition of innovation continues as the firm currently holds 3,500 active patents.
Corporate Management
Murray D. Martin is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. He has full strategic and operational responsibility for the company, overseeing its overall performance with a focus on sustaining increased shareholder, customer and employee value. Under Mr. Martin’s leadership as President and Chief Operating Officer, the company increased organic growth and profitability, tripled the company’s international revenue from $500 million to $1.5 billion, and identified and integrated over 65 acquisitions throughout the world. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Waterloo in June of 2009.
Michael Monahan is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, Mike has responsibility for the financial operations of the company on a global basis. This includes treasury, audit, investor relations, corporate development, tax functions and driving results with the business units. In May of 2007 Mike took on management of the Mailstream Solutions and Services - Americas business. This included North and South American operations for the core mailing business in addition to the Mail Services portfolio. The group represents more than 1.3 million customers, over two billion dollars in annual revenue, and greater than 50% of the company’s earnings. Mike oversaw the consolidation of multiple business groups into a single business and initiated a focused program to improve the customer experience.

• The Healthcare University (HCU) program at Pitney Bowes provides incentives and financial rewards to employees for healthy behaviors, such as exercise, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, cardiovascular check-ups and cancer screenings.
• The medical staff in our on-site wellness clinics provides employees with free, basic health services such as flu shots and strep tests, as well as preventive screenings for skin, breast and prostate cancers.
• In December 2006, Pitney Bowes and several other large corporations formed Dossia, a non-profit consortium, which is currently funding development of a web-based framework through which U.S. employees, dependents and retirees can maintain private, portable, personal and life-long health records
Environmental Stewardship
The firm’s Design for Environmental Quality (DfEQ) program allows for the removal of ozone depleting substances from both the manufacturing process and the company’s products. Pitney Bowes has also partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to develop EnergyStar® guidelines for select mailstream hardware solutions. Pitney Bowes voluntarily participates in the US EPA WasteWise Recycling program and was inducted into the WasteWise Hall of Fame in 2007.
Charitable Giving
Pitney Bowes supports the efforts of non-profit organizations that seek to bring positive change to their communities through the Pitney Bowes Foundation, a private corporate foundation. The Foundation's funding programs include literacy and education and the employee involvement initiative.
