Juanita James Honored by Connecticut Sun for Positive Impact on Community
STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 14, 2009 – Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced that Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Juanita James was recognized yesterday evening by the Connecticut Sun with a “Community MVP” award for her commitment to the community and efforts to increase literacy throughout the country. The award was presented at the Mohegan Sun Arena during the Pitney Bowes/WNBA “Fast Break to Reading” Game Night event.
“I am honored to be among the notable recipients of this year’s Community MVP award from the Connecticut Sun,” said James. “I truly enjoy all my community activities and I am passionate about raising awareness of the importance of literacy.”
James spearheaded the “Fast Break To Reading” program, a joint initiative between Pitney Bowes and the Women’s National Basketball Association, now in its second year, that encourages young students to read and track their minutes at http://www.wnba.com/fbtr/. The goal of the program is for youth to collectively reach one million minutes of reading time by the end of the WNBA season.
James also serves on the Board of Directors for Reading is Fundamental (RIF), where she chairs the Development Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee. Other community responsibilities include serving as Board President of the Stamford Museum and Nature Center; as a Director of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra; and as a member of the Leadership Council and former Board President for the ChildCare Learning Centers of Stamford. James is a former Secretary of the Board and Chair of the Pension Committee for the Ferguson Library in Stamford.
